• Follow up with treatment until the ants are gone. It takes usually one hour for the first treatment and then about 5 minutes a week to follow up for a few weeks or month.
• Check the next spring that the ants do not come back and try to reestablish the nest. No matter what treatment, re-infestation is a strong possibility when dealing with carpenter ants; it's part of the reason why they are considered difficult to eradicate from homes.
